Miracle on 43rd Street

APRIL 26th, 2003 – the tour & the mischief.

There is no reason to be interested in 43rd Street between Northern Blvd. and the BQE in Queens, New York but we’re interested in it and we’re interested in a miracle. Our exhibit will take place on April 26th and it will consist of a map and a little bus tour. The bus will take people to the BQE-end of 43rd Street and the map will help people get back to Flux Factory, which is located at the Northern Blvd.-end of the street. It’s not hard to get back since the street is straight and it leads directly; it’s like the Yellow Brick Road without the colors or the bricks and straighter. Dorothy had such an amazing experience along the course of following this yellow and brick road many things were neither what they seemed to be nor was anything simple. So you can see that the rub is in the map.

Queens Tribune Vol. 33 #16 April 17-23 2003

“This non-profit artists collective, which relocated to Long Island City from Brooklyn just over a year ago, supports some of the finest experimental music-oriented happenings in the entire City. Their upcoming Soundscrape events offer a hybrid of visual and audio art from artist that slip through the cracks of more conventional music venues, and offers a good example of the new musical and artistic ground that Flux Factory is dedicated to exploring.”

‘Miracle’ comes to Astoria for Flux Factory walk tour

There is no reason to be interested in 43rd Street between Northern Boulevard and the BQE in Queens, but some people are interested in it and they’re also interested in a miracle.

“Miracle on 43rd Street,” the latest project by the Flux Factory collective, will take place on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 5 p.m. It will consist of a map and a little bus tour and a series of installations, performances and interactions along 43rd Street.

Most maps are about space and directions and they try to smooth things out for peripatetics. The Flux Factory map will be different, though not quite opposite. Their map will be about walking down 43rd Street, as members have transformed it, re-thought it, altered it, dreamed about it, forgotten about it and done stupid things along it.

Flux Factory is located at 38-38 43rd Street, Long Island City.

Please note that this is a walking tour and there will indeed be a good deal of walking involved. Flux Factory recommends the donning of comfortable walking shoes.

“Miracle on 43rd Street” was made possible by a grant from the Queens Council on the Arts.

For more information and directions go to www.fluxfactory.org or call 718-707-3362.
