Artist Biography: Ann Hirsch is a video and performance artist engaging with the contemporary portrayal of women in media. She has exhibited and performed in New York City at Kansas Gallery, Higher Pictures, Interstate Projects, Microscope Gallery, Momenta Art, Grace Exhibition Space, Stadium, Flux Factory, Independent Curator’s International, and elsewhere, such as The Lab and NOMA gallery in San Francisco, Central Utah Artist’s Space, SKOL in Montreal, Experimenta in Melbourne and Sarah Lawrence College. Hirsch has completed residences at the Contemporary Artist’s Center in Troy, Atlantic Center for the Arts and Yaddo. She was recently awarded a 2012-2013 Rhizome commission and was part of the Badlands e-book, How to Download a Boyfriend. Hirsch received her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and her MFA from Syracuse University. Her work has been written about by the New York Times, Rhizome, BOMBblog and Artinfo.com. She has exhibited, performed, and talked at Flux for various projects, including the group exhibition Why Participate? and the one-night presentations, Expert Oddities and Diaristic Indulgences.
