a SLIDESHOW has been put online! Okay it's not the full slideshow yet, but these 51 images will show you the unpacking, the installation, and a few shots with some gallery-goers. Unfortunately once the madness of the evening really began, and the 300+ people started showing up, I was unable to keep taking photos, because I was too busy selling artwork. But they should give you an idea of the scale of the project, and as soon as more images flood in, I'll post them online!

WORKS ON PAPER

At the end of 2005 Flux Factory put out a call to artists to donate artworks for a then-forthcoming spring fundraiser called 'works on paper'. That time is upon us! And artists around the world responded to our call! We have been graciously inundated with donations by no less than 250 artists, from 20 countries, on five continents! And with some artists donating two, three or more artworks, the previous spring fundraiser is now looking to be the biggest bazaar our side of the East River.

A 'bazaar' indeed! In true Flux Factory style, we will present not only approximately 450 works of art for sale, but will also feature live entertainment from four local bands: The Love Loves, Marla Hooch, The Dirty Projectors, and Fur Cups For Teeth as well as DJ brotherbeat. Snacks will also be available, donated by local area restaurants and chefs. Additionally, artist Mamie Tinkler will set up a free "fruit-stand" of fresh, locally-grown berries.

What type of art will you find? The call was OPEN after all! Artists took the notion of 'on paper' and ran with it: we have paper sculptures, paper scrolls, artists zines, even several paper fashion apparels! And of course LOTS and LOTS of drawings, paintings on paper, manipulated photographs, and prints of virtually every form.

All proceeds raised by this event will go to support Flux Factory's not-for-profit projects for 2006 and beyond, including but not limited to:
  • Free monthly Technology Initiative Workshops, in which artists and others can learn new skills
  • Maintaining our multipurpose gallery/performance/laboratory space for the planning and creation of new works
  • Expanding our studio facilities and resources, including a computer center, toolshop, library, and silkscreening facilities for the use of our community as well as local and international artists
  • Flux Thursday, our monthly Thursday night salon with free dinner and a lively open forum
  • Our ongoing outreach program with local institutions, businesses, and the public sector

We hope you will join us Saturday 20 May 2006 from 6-10pm for a boisterous evening of entertainment and art!

We currently stand at 263 participating artists, from 20 countries on five continents!

Thank you so much for your support!
