We've recently
joined a program with QSAC
(Quality Services for the Autistic Community).
QSAC was established in 1978 by a group of concerned parents of children with
autism. These parents strongly believed that people with autism were capable
of living at home and, in some cases, participating in normal social activities,
forming relationships, maintaining employment and becoming productive members
of the community.
Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a group of autistic individuals
and two staff members come by Flux and help out with whatever projects
we have in the works. Their first project was to help us put up our summer
show, While You Were Playing Rubik’s
Cube. They have also started painting and drawing in our public space/experimental
lab. One of the paintings, by Mr. G and Jamel, is now a permanent part
of our collection. It’s pretty damn good. We’re very happy
about the program.
