Windmill Community Garden Memorial Day Block Party

After last year’s Din Din Block Party, we knew it had to be a tradition! Flux Factory and The Dutch Kills Civic Association present a Memorial Day block party 29th St between 39th and 40th aves from 3pm-7pm.

We’ll feature musicians, performers, DJs, food vendors, and more! Stay tuned for more information to be announced soon.

Participants and activities:

  • Materials for the Arts are leading a drop-in re-use art making booth
  • Chocolate Factory Theater – Our new neighbors, the legendary LIC performance space
  • DJ Vinyl Richie – Flux Factory’s finest
  • Kissatou – live music from this LIC local hailing from Burkina Faso
  • Adopt-a-Dog pen from Camp Happy Tails – rescued dogs available for adoption and belly rubs.
  • Rosa Aca and the Street Vendor Project – Food plates, drinks, ice cream, fruit and more from this longtime vendor who works just 2 blocks away from Flux Factory! She usually runs a breakfast cart with tamales, bagels, and pastries on 31st Street and 39th Avenue in LIC, right off of the 31st Street NW train. Normal hours are 6 AM – 2 PM, Monday – Friday. Rosa is a mother and grandmother, and after waiting 14 years for a permit of her own, was finally able to receive one and open her own business
  • Ankhlave Arts Alliance‘s newest curator-in-residence Cecilia Andre will present a workshop
  • Northeast Political Prisoner Coalition, raising awareness of wrongfully imprisoned activists
  • Model Train Demo from George Stamatiades, Dutch Kills stalwart
  • The Western Queens Community Land Trust, which is dedicated to bringing permanently affordable homes and buildings to our diverse and vibrant community.
  • Short film screenings including
    • American Hero “Still Running The Streets”, a new documentary about the life and thought of Suga Ray, Queensbridge native, local activist and artist
    • Sindhu Thirumalaisamy’s “oon”, created during her 2019 Residency at Flux Factory
