Catalina is currently an Associate Professor in the Visual Arts program at Fordham University. \n\n\n\nLucky Benson is an actor and filmmaker whose performance work is informed by their training as a visual artist\, journalist\, and hypnotist. Past roles have included the ghost of cellist Charlotte Moorman\, a nonbinary version of Conan the Barbarian\, an evil pickup artist\, and a filmmaker who successfully infiltrates the JPEG codec. They star in the forthcoming feature film “C.A.R.E.” directed by Brock Enright. Their work has appeared in places like the CPH:DOX Documentary Film Festival\, on the BBC\, at the Rotterdam International Film Festival\, in The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art\, on the screen at Anthology Film Archives\, in The Brooklyn Museum\, on the BBC\, in The New York Times\, and on the walls of Nicolai Wallner Gallery. Daniel is the only luthier that studied directly with the daxophone’s inventor\, Hans Reichel. Daniel’s instruments have traveled the world\, including Canada\, Norway\, Germany\, France\, Japan\, Kazakhstan\, and Australia. He is the first USA-based artist to receive the P.I.G. Daniel received his MA in Music Composition from Wesleyan University\, and earned his PhD in Composition and Computer Music at the University of Virginia. He teaches at Ramapo College of New Jersey\, where he is Assistant Professor of Music Production. His current favorite wood is prunus serotina\, or black cherry. \n\n\n\nFemi Shonuga-Fleming is a New York based sound artist whose compositions explore the intersections of acousmatics and cultural anthropology. His work employs site specific rituals that investigate environments and create new forms of discourse in conversation with the resulting research. Through performance\, multichannel installation and sculpture\, he examines the dynamic relationships between human gesture and sound technology. Femi works with handmade electro-acoustic instruments and generative systems as cybernetic mediums\, extending embodied experience into spatial interventions. The focus of his work is to amplify the world of the surreal by designing new immersive environments. He is particularly interested in sonic acts as ritual and the poetics of sound technology. His work has been presented at the Sonic Acts Biennial in Amsterdam (2026)\, Waterworks Festival in Massachusetts (2024)\, and Ende Tymes in New York (2022)\, among other venues and festivals. \n\n\n\nSarah Ema Friedland is a NYC-based media artist and educator. A long-time media activist\, Fivel loves using storytelling to empower movements for social justice. Additionally\, he has years of experience in development for nonprofits. Fivel co-founded the democratically-run independent news site Indymedia.org\, which empowered thousands of citizen journalists in chapters worldwide.  Credits as a producer on feature-length documentary work include: The People’s Bubbie (in-progress)\, Lyd\, Island Soldier\, and My Brooklyn. \n\n\n\nBen Still is a filmmaker and musician. Born and raised in Portoviejo\, Ecuador\, Tito found in movies and imagination his earliest forms of artistic expression. After studying medicine\, he followed his passion for the arts and moved to New York City to study acting at the New York Film Academy. His work is drawn to psychological depth\, silence\, isolation\, and the emotions that exist beneath what we reveal. \n\n\n\nPaige Finley is a performer and choreographer. She is a graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA program and a member of Ballet Hispánico’s BH2. Additional training includes Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet\, ABT\, BalletX\, ArchCore40\, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. In addition to dance\, Paige has trained in voice and acting\, debuted choreographic works in New York\, Chicago and Santa Fe\, and works as a Barre instructor.  \n\n\n\nTuong Bui always feels out of place. A Fordham urban studies program graduate student (and a singer-songwriter in waiting)\, she has no credentials or accolades to speak of in the filmmaking business. She is interested in understanding the “constitutive outside” of this world and how its inhabitants navigate the vicissitudes of urban space and time. Experimenting with the medium in ways that showcase her lack of knowledge of its “rules”\, she hopes to bring the medium itself into an immanent critique of how technologies of representation fail the embodied histories of the most vulnerable – past and present. \n\n\n\nTeleférico T.1 credits: \n\n\n\nCast: Lucky Benson\, Tito Joao\, Lou Heiskus\, Paige Finley\, Berisha Fareau\, Ale Ng-Guzman\, Quin Berfield Brewer\, Naveah Diaz\, Kimberly Lazzara\, Breanna Shifrin & Daniel Fishkin  \n\n\n\nInterviews: Gregg Paravati and Darren McCarthy \n\n\n\nCinematographer of 16mm film: Khanh Tran \n\n\n\nSound Recordist: Fivel Rothberg \n\n\n\nScoopic Operator and Production Assistant: Alejandro Ng-Guzman \n\n\n\nAssistant Camera and Production Assistant: Brittney Cates \n\n\n\nCinematographer of digital documentary film: Max Losson \n\n\n\nEditor: Ben Still \n\n\n\nComposer: Daniel Fishkin \n\n\n\nWriter\, Director\, Producer: Catalina Jordan Alvarez \n\n\n\nFilm within film by Tuong Bui: Caring for Stonewall in Noisy Times: Scream or Hide? SUMMARY:Noticing Zine Activation
DESCRIPTION:Image: Experimental School for Black Imagination\, 2026. \n\n\n\nNoticing Zine Activation is a co-created ceremony of paying attention\, solo and together\, hosted by Experimental School for Black Imagination. We’ll practice noticing what repeats\, what we’ve inherited\, and what’s still becoming\, in the room and\, weather permitting\, out along the waterfront. Expect to play\, be asked questions\, and try out ways of looking at each other. Wear comfortable clothing. No prep needed\, and reading the zine beforehand is optional though encouraged. \n\n\n\nThis event is programmed in conjunction with the exhibition\, A Thousand Answers: Rhizome Fellowship Artists 2025/26. \n\n\n\nAbout the Artist \n\n\n\nZella is an artist\, cultural organizer\, and designer whose work spans painting\, performance\, zines\, and portal-making; and a founding organizer with the Experimental School for Black Imagination\, a collective offering led by artists tending to the ways we come together to create\, feel\, and grow. Zella’s work aims to ask new questions about what it means to be free\, while being a mirror for Black queer folks; visualizing our beauty\, divinity\, and boundless new worlds that have always been ours to take up spiritual residence in. Zella earned an MFA in Interaction Design from the School of Visual Arts; and they split their time between New York City and Côte d’Ivoire. They are also a board member and design lead with the Black Veterans Project. They live in Brooklyn with their turtle\, MJ.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception · By Way Of
DESCRIPTION:The Cleveland Institute of Art’s Reinberger Gallery presents By Way Of\, a group exhibition of new work by the inaugural cohort of the Regional Artist Mobility Program (RAMP)\, a residency exchange between Flux Factory and CIA in Northeast Ohio. \n\n\n\nBy Way Of takes its title from the common preposition for an indirect route—a nod to the oft absurd\, circuitous path taken by makers for their art. Leaning into processes of working backwards\, taking the side quest\, wandering off or rerouting\, each of the artists in By Way Of channels a practice through something that already exists: by way of a melting shoe\, by way of reenactment\, by way of material resistance or by way of Saturday morning cartoons. \n\n\n\nThe inaugural RAMP cohort includes two Cleveland Institute of Art faculty members: interdisciplinary artist and designer Rachel Ferber and painter Mike Meier. It also includes two Flux Factory community artists: textile artist and designer Itala Aguilera and interdisciplinary artist and former actor Li-Ming Hu. \n\n\n\nBy Way Of will open to the public with a reception from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday\, November 13 at CIA’s Reinberger Gallery. Remarks will begin at 6:00 pm and will be followed by a live one-night-only performance by Aguilera at 6:15 pm. The exhibition will remain on view through Sunday\, February 7\, 2027. \n\n\n\nThe Regional Artist Mobility Program is made possible with the support of The Kettering Family Foundation. Reinberger Gallery programming is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County\, through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture\, and generously supported by CIA’s Community Partners. \n\n\n\nImage Credit: Itala Aguilera\, Ice Shoes\, 2025. SUMMARY:Opening Reception · For Those Without A Tribe
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Ethan Shoshan: For Those Without A Tribe on Tuesday\, November 17 from 6 – 9 PM\, with remarks at 7 PM. The exhibition centers on a series of large-scale hooked rugs depicting the rooms and objects of the historic Lower Manhattan building on Greenwich Street where Shoshan lived alongside the artist Geoffrey Hendricks and archivist Sur Rodney (Sur) for almost two decades. A social experiment for intergenerational living\, the Greenwich Street home became a place where art\, friendship\, history\, and everyday life were deeply intertwined.About the Artist \n\n\n\nEthan Shoshan is an artist\, activist\, curator\, writer\, and social ecologist based in New York City. Living independently from an early age taught him care\, resilience\, and the importance of community. These values continue to shape his art. Working across media\, his practice bridges creativity and social engagement\, shedding light on inequity and belonging. Behind the scenes\, he supports activist and cultural communities as a technical consultant\, seeing no separation between sustaining art and sustaining people. Shoshan has exhibited widely and led programs for queer and unhoused communities. His work transforms personal and collective histories into acts of connection and possibility.AccessibilityFlux IV is located on the ground floor of 56-21 2nd Street\, Long Island City\, NY 11101 between the Queens Landing Boathouse & Environmental Center and Gotham Point apartments.
