Opening Reception · Solo Exhibitions

November 17 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm EST

Join us at Flux IV for the opening reception of two solo exhibitions, Ethan Shoshan: For Those Without A Tribe and Wallace Dos Santos: Cherry Blossom Girl on Tuesday, November 17 from 6 – 9 PM, with remarks at 7 PM.

For Those Without A Tribe centers on a series of large-scale hooked rugs depicting the rooms and objects of the historic Lower Manhattan building on Greenwich Street where New York-based artist, activist, and social ecologist, Ethan Shoshan, lived alongside the artist Geoffrey Hendricks and archivist Sur Rodney (Sur) for almost two decades. A social experiment for intergenerational living, the Greenwich Street home became a place where art, friendship, history, and everyday life were deeply intertwined.

Cherry Blossom Girl features a series of sculpturally framed paintings incorporating paper pulp made from recycled, everyday waste. Reflecting on the nostalgia and sweetness of the Wallace dos Santos’s childhood in New York City, the exhibition explores how a place becomes imbricated with the people, memories, architectural details, and recurrent encounters that shape our lives.

About the Artists

Ethan Shoshan is an artist, activist, curator, writer, and social ecologist based in New York City. Living independently from an early age taught him care, resilience, and the importance of community. These values continue to shape his art. Working across media, his practice bridges creativity and social engagement, shedding light on inequity and belonging. Behind the scenes, he supports activist and cultural communities as a technical consultant, seeing no separation between sustaining art and sustaining people. Shoshan has exhibited widely and led programs for queer and unhoused communities. His work transforms personal and collective histories into acts of connection and possibility.

Wallace dos Santos (b.2000) is a Brazilian-American artist born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. They work in painting, papermaking, and sculpture to explore architectural and psychedelic realms. They received their BFA from The Cooper Union, and currently work in Queens, NY. Wallace has been a resident at the Ox-Bow Longform Residency, haul gallery Raised in Brooklyn Residency, and the Vermont Studio Center. Wallace is a 2026 NYFA Queens Art Fund recipient.
