Anne Percoco: Shrines of the Gowanus Canal

In a public workshop at The Gowanus Studio Space, artist Anne Percoco and participants will convert an old boat into a mobile shrine, constructed from primarily scrap material, and will travel along the now EPA Superfund site of the Gowanus Canal. This mobile shrine inverts the idea of a pilgrimage: the shrine itself traveling to various sites, not just the pilgrims. This workshop and pilgrimage will be an experience during which viewers are given the opportunity to try out an animistic understanding of this unique landscape and an alternate way of engaging their immediate surroundings.
