Following the unique journeys of queer, trans, and non-binary emerging performers in Brooklyn, Beyond Performance, a documentary project by Tray Tsui, examines the creative process behind the creation of a drag act, while offering an in-depth exploration of the thoughts, motivations, hopes, fears, and joys of gender non-conforming artists as they navigate the interior and exterior challenges of owning one’s gender presentation in a society rigid with gender norms.

Beyond Performance is presented as part of the artist’s 2025 NYSCA Fellowship.
