Firoz Mahmud : ‘Gust of hot spice and mystique fable’

Firoz Mahmud will present his new film/video ‘Blurred Reading’, photographs, blood painting, mixed media works and drawing on paper.

Firoz Mahmud is a Bangladeshi born artist who creates installation, video, photograph, sculptures, painting, urgent drawing (NinKi: UoPD) and mixed media. His process includes doodling on existing images, creating visual jokes on celebrity portraits, and play-drawing. His work often alludes to displaced habitats, ambiguous spatial relationships and dystopia. He examines the landmarks of his changing surroundings. His mixed media works and drawings produce look at the history of Bengal region.

Firoz Mahmud (b.Khulna) gained his Ph.D in fine arts from Tokyo University of the Arts,(Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku) (2011) and his MFA from Tama Art University(2007) and Dhaka University. He was an artist-in-research at the Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (2003-4).

His major Biennial/Triennial exhibitions include: Dhaka Art Summit (2016, 2014), Setouchi Triennale (2013); Aichi Triennale (2010); Sharjah Biennale, UAE (2009); Cairo Biennale (2008); Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2006 & 2009) and the Asian Biennale, Bangladesh (2000, 2002 and 2008).

He has exhibited at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo/MOT & Geidai; Fuchu Art Museum; Ota Fine Arts, Setagaya Art Museum; Mori Art Museum (Centre Gallery); The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts; Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art; Aichi Prefecture Museum of Art and Ota Fine Arts in Tokyo & Singapore and the Sharjah Museum, UAE; Asia House in London; Exhibit 320 in Delhi; Hammon Museum & ISCP in New York; MøstingsHus, Frederiksberg, Copenhagen; Rijksakademie VBK, Amsterdam Office for Contemporary Art in Norway(OCA) and the Sovereign Art Foundation in Hong Kong among others.
