Flux Thursday – (Re) mnants: (Re) inscribing Memory
This Flux Thursday will be hosted by Monique Muse Dodd, in connection with her exhibition (Re) mnants.
Thursday, January 11th
doors open 7pm, dinner 7:30pm
Flux Thursday is of our longest running Flux Factory program, and is an event that includes eating together. Traditional Louisiana style Seafood Gumbo made by my Grandma Shirley will be served, but please bring something edible for us all to share.
What do you do when all you have are memories, when your histories have been actively erased? We willuse this night to honor those who have come before us and share stories remembered or imagined that deal with our ancestry and family history.
How do you remember?
What do you choose to forget?
All are invited to share memories, stories and reflections on these questions.
I see Remnants as a way to piece together my story, filling in the gaps with imagination where necessary. You are more than tragedy; you are more than what keeps you small. Take what you need, and leave the rest behind.
