Fluxington Mill

After residencies in Berlin and more recently Ibiza, Islington Mill, a cultural collaborative organization in Salford (UK), will produce a new work–the Unguided Tour–this October during a month-long residency at Flux Factory (NYC), as well as collaborate with Flux Factory on a number of collective projects. Islington Mill, comprised of a club venue, 50 artists’ studios, two art galleries and a B&B, has emerged over the past decade as a factory and meeting place for prolific and hip producers and their audiences.

Long-term Islington Mill associates Volkov Commanders and Rachel Goodyear will be contributing to the programme at Flux Factory as well as producing satellite events across NYC and Skype performances via Salford.

In the second half of October, the trio behind the Salford collective, Bill Campbell, Maurice Carlin and Mark Carlin, will be programming alongside Helen Kaplinsky, a writer, curator and long time collaborator with Islington Mill, and Rivca Burns, the initiator of the Fluxington Mill exchange.

Flux will be a base from which will stem citywide impromptu and informal events spanning across disciplines and genres with both UK and NYC based artists. Events and new work will generate through public and private rehearsal, performance, production and research workshops, screenings, launches, dinners and discussions. The gallery at Flux Factory will serve the purpose of a junction node for a network of adjunct programmes across NYC, providing an opportunity for experimentation, collaboration and dissemination.

The Islington Mill’s residency at Flux Factory is supported, in part, by Arts Council England.
