Jonas Vansteenkiste
Jonas Vansteenkiste (1984, Kortrijk) is a Belgian artist and curator exploring the intersection of architecture, psychology, and perception. His work challenges the boundaries between private and public space, creating “mental spaces” that question how we experience built environments. Through installations, video, sculpture, photography, and drawing, he translates personal narratives into universal experiences, rooted in the concept of Denkraum. His art has been exhibited internationally, including at Pragovka Gallery in Prague, Fridman Gallery in New York, and the Modernism for the Future 360/365 exhibition in Kaunas. Having studied at KASK Ghent and St. Lucas Antwerp, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice that extends beyond Belgium. In 2024, he was appointed Head of the Ceramics Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Alongside his artistic work, Vansteenkiste is also active as a curator, shaping exhibitions that engage with themes of space, architecture, and perception. His work has been featured at institutions such as the Verbeke Foundation in Belgium and the European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC) in the Netherlands. Operating between Belgium and the Netherlands, he continues to push the boundaries of architecture, materiality, and contemporary art.
