Louis Leung

Louis Leung’s experimentation with ink explores new horizons in visual and vision by resolving, redefining and rebuilding profound images that express time and space.

As an ink painting artist, Leung is passionate about breaking through the limitations of traditional ink forms to explore new possibilities of artistic creation. His practice centers on perceptivity, perseverance and exploration while playing with images of time and space. His ink paintings depart from the usual and mundane, offering a glimpse of a leap-frog-like imagination. By resolving, redefining and rebuilding unique visual images, a spontaneity emerges, representative of his inner and outer world on paper.

Leung obtained a Higher Diploma with Distinction in Graphic Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic. He had worked as an Art Director for several leading international advertising agencies before establishing his own design company in 1990, offering professional graphic design and illustration services to a wide range of commercial clients.

He embarked on his ink painting journey in 2013. His solo exhibitions include Ink Outside the Box (2023), Unyielding Visions (2021), Sight • Insight (2020), and Emergence (2014). His artworks have been shown in various exhibitions in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Taipei, Paris, Toronto and New York.

Leung’s residency is generously supported by the UOB Art in Ink Award.
