Maurice Carlin
Maurice Carlin is a Manchester based artist and co-director of Islington Mill. His work merges performance, place and publishing to produce dialogues between digital and physical experience. Artworks explore perceptions around the information we receive and send, whether derived from a TV screen, via the internet or through a day to day experience on the street.
His work has been featured in publications including Frieze, The Guardian and Art Monthly. In 2007, he co-founded Islington Mill Art Academy, a peer-led experiment into alternative modes of art education.
Whilst in residence at Flux Factory, Maurice will be researching artist residency models in NY, beginning with Flux Factory itself. In addition to this, he will be exhibiting as part of a group exhibition, Self-interruption from the 20th-25th October at Jack Chiles Gallery curated by Helen Kaplinsky, (481 Broadway, Floor 4. New York, NY 10013) and launching a publication which documents a recent ‘Performance Publishing’ work, featuring texts by NY based writers Karen Archey, Joanne McNeil and Danielle Rago.
