Monique Muse Dodd

Monique Muse Dodd is a Maryland born, NYC based filmmaker and photographer who received her Bachelors of Arts in Film Production from Howard University and studied at the Film Academy of Prague. Her focus lies in both the shared and diverse experiences of people within the African Diaspora. A nomad, Muse’s explorations abroad in both Salvador, Brazil and Prague, Czech Republic have made her more conscious of the systems in place that effect Black people globally.

As an Artist in Residence at  the Flux Factory in Long Island City, NY; Muse will use the time to complete her latest film series Remnants which explores themes of racial identity, intergenerational trauma and memory. It is her mission to create work that speaks to African people worldwide and to bring humanity and grace to the stories that are either ignored or misrepresented. Muse hopes to create space for black bodies to be free, even if only for a frame.
