Nine Yamamoto-Masson is a French-Japanese artist, theorist, writer, community organiser, activist, and translator.
In academic research, artistic and activist practice, and across multiple media, her work analyses the gendered necropolitics of coloniality with regard to the legacies of European and Japanese colonialism and their present manifestations as configurations of power and economies of knowledge that exert violence on bodies and futures. She studies the modes of organisation of networked resistance, and the workings of resistant memory challenging hegemonic dominant narratives, focusing on the role of art and inter-diasporic, internationalist, and inter-generational solidarities.
She is currently pursing a PhD at ASCA (Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis, University of Amsterdam).
Prior to that she studied at the universities Paris Sorbonne, Berlin Humboldt, New York University, London Goldsmiths and Tokyo Waseda University (philosophy, cultural studies, history of art, film theory, literature). She was a visiting researcher-artist at Hiroshima City University in 2018 and 2019.
She is a curator in the program collective of DISTRICT, an independent art space in Berlin, and organizing member of several collectives that use art as method within their activism.
