Open Call: For the Public Group Exhibition

Apply to this open call now on Submittable – deadline December 20

The AnkhLave Arts Alliance and The Rhizome Project, have collaborated to present the Flux Factory Major Exhibition: For the Public.  We are seeking Performance Artists, artists interested in conducting workshops, or presenting literary worksspoken word, or sound art in a form that engages an audience.  This call is open to artists who identify as BIPOC, with a preference for Black and Brown populations, based in NYC.  The show will open Saturday January 15, 2022, and artists selected will need to be available the month of January to participate in workshops as well as gallery sit.

For the Public is the culminating exhibit from the 2021 AnkhLave Garden Project Fellows who presented public work between June and September at the Queens Botanical Garden.  In keeping with the theme For the Public, the 5 fellows will present one work each as a sister piece to the work previously created for the garden project.

After being quarantined most of last year, and coming out of it early 2021, we want to give artists the opportunity to reflect on what it’s been like to slowly venture out and begin making our presence public again.  Many of us returned to work, began socializing and started attending public functions. In a similar way, many artists are just starting to get our stride in the exhibition realm again.

This is open to any performative art forms as well as musing or reflections on presenting in person again (For the Public).

Artists will receive a $250 honorarium. The exhibition will take place at the Local Project.

This is a Rhizome Project exhibition in collaboration with AnkhLave Arts Alliance, Inc.

This show is curated by Teri Henderson, Dario Mohr and Haiba Hamilton.
