Rebecca Ann Tess

Rebecca Ann Tess (*1980 in Annweiler am Trifels, Germany) studied fine arts at the University of fine arts Berlin, at Chelsea College of Art and Design London and at Städelschule Frankfurt am Main. Tess has exhibited among others in the shows ‘Das ist die Lebenswelt’ at Neuer Aachener Kunstverein, ‘Past Imperfect’ at Beursschouwburg, Brussels, ‘Videonale 12’ at Bonner Kunstmuseum and with the Free Class Frankfurt/M. in ‘Trompe l’oeil Polizei’ at Frankfurter Kunstverein.

Tess practice is mainly based in the field of video and found footage imagery. Topics of interest have recently been queer theory as well as film and television history. Her latest video project is a trilogy that refers to certaistereotypes of character presentation in European and US film history. The first part ‘Dad Dracula is Dead’, realized in 2009 looks back to the cinema of the twenties and thirties, a time of transition not only from silent film to ‘talkies’ but also for an increasingly regimented film industry. The second installment dealing with the cinematic detective and crime genre questioning the power constellations between the characters will be shot in summer 2010.
