The Trajinera – In Discussion with Eduardo Porter

Mexican workers represent a high percentage of the US labor force, working all kinds of occupations, from teachers and scientists to construction workers, playing a invaluable role in US economy and community. Journalist Eduardo Porter will be leading a conversation about how this nation benefits from Mexican migration, and how it is that Mexican communities contribute to the growth of this country.

This evening is presented as part of artist Natalia Porter’s Trajinera Boatbuilding Workshop. The Trajinera is a Pre-Hispanic Mexican Barge used in the Xochimilco area of Mexico City. Natalia Porter uses the trajinera in this project as a literal and figurative platform for the discussion of Mexican Culture in New York City and the nation as a whole.
