Video Jam: Eliyana Evans, Sarah Hill, Shereen Perera & filmmaker Scout Stuart
Video Jam is an event series based in Manchester (UK) which commissions musicians of all genres to compose and live perform original accompaniment for short contemporary film & video. We are committed to creating unique events in interesting places which seek to challenge conventional ideologies within moving image and sound.
Video Jam is also dedicated to commissioning, producing and presenting new audio/visual work. This ongoing project facilitates emerging to mid-career artist filmmakers and composers with the means to work together over an extended period of time, whose final pieces are then staged in collaboration with cultural partners across the UK and beyond. To date we have hosted over 45 events in spaces including a hotel rooftop for the Colombo Art Biennale (Sri Lanka), a glass atrium at Manchester Art Gallery with artist Jeremy Deller, a series of vaults underneath Waterloo station (London), and one of the oldest synagogues in the UK at Manchester Jewish Museum.
Currently, we are working on an event commissioned by the Barbican Centre (London) to accompany their forthcoming exhibition Basquiat: Boom For Real – the UK’s first major exhibition of work by Jean-Michel Basquiat. For this, we have commissioned a number of New York based filmmakers to create new work inspired by their personal take on Basquiat’s creative influences, work and life. Our residency at Flux enables us to meet and work with artists based in NYC, undertake relevant field research and host a programme of events in conjunction with this project. More information here.
