“You remember too much,
my mother said to me recently.
Why hold onto all that? And I said,
Where can I put it down?”
– Anne Carson

It Becomes Me is a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Ro Garrido.

The remains are all around me,
in my space they flourish
and consume.
There is evidence all around.
Do you see
how it becomes me?
A scene. A room. Enter.

In the ongoing aftermath of violence and trauma, what do we make with the ruins we are left with? What happens after? The exhibition takes us to bedroom, an intimate space where our internal and external worlds meet. Within the safety of this bedroom, we explore the weighted process of recovery and transformation, the process of creation and world making, and the lengths that we must go through to survive.

Ro Garrido is a multidisciplinary artist from Queens, New York born in Lima, Peru. You can see more of their work at rogarrido.com.
