Christina Vassallo
Christina Vassallo has been involved with Flux Factory since 2010 as Adjunct Curator, and was appointed Executive Director in May 2011. In addition to serving as lead fundraiser and defining the organization’s artistic vision, she has redesigned Flux’s educational programming by co-developing a number of initiatives, including Flux Death Match, The Future of Your Neighborhood: Who Decides?, and Fake It Til You Make It. She has also co-curated major Flux Factory exhibitions, including The Typhoon Continues & So Do You, Congress of Collectives, and Public Trust.
Christina has organized projects for a variety of non-profit and for-profit venues through her curatorial platform Random Number. Notable projects include a 40-person exhibition in the abandoned St. Cecilia’s convent (system:system), a miniature golf course inspired by US immigration policy for Jersey City Museum (The Golden Door), a program of digital artworks projected onto the Manhattan Bridge through NYC DOT (Bright Nights), and a traveling show about macabre tendencies in contemporary Norwegian art at chashama and Lafayette College (DARKNESS DESCENDS: Norwegian Art Now).
Christina previously served as Associate Director of Kinz, Tillou + Feigen Gallery and ART&IDEA, and as Assistant Curator at American Federation of Arts. She holds a B.A. in art history and an M.A. in visual arts management from New York University. Most importantly, she is the owner of the unofficial Flux Factory mascot, Truman.
