Ganas was founded in 1979 on Staten Island. This non-egalitarian community utilizes 10–12 core group members plus 60 to 70 members of varying involvement. The community runs three reuse businesses, including a clothing, furniture and bookstore-cafe.

Arc 38 is a 501c3 nonprofit project occupying 188 acres in upstate New York. Rooted in activism, sustainability, agriculture, building networks, spirituality, philosophy and radical pacifism, ARC 38 strives to embody a living experiment in community building.
